When I was 5 years old in 1923 the folks started to build the new house and tear down the old house built by Eli Michael. The folks rented the Davidson house over the hill when I was in the first grade in Center School ( near the present day Charity Grange Hall below Bond’s Butte). Earl was in the 8 th grade and walked with me to school. The next year ( 1924/25 ) he was not there and the folks would not let me go alone so I was sent to Corvallis to live with my grandparents for the 2 nd grade. By the third year the new house was built and I moved back home. I remember helping to tear down the old home . They used the hand hewn beams in the new home. I lived with my grandparents in Corvallis during high school and Brownsville was too far away to walk.
