Misc. Notes
She was a school teacher and did not marry till late in life. No Children -- Alice Moulder and Ruth Davis knew her well and did not like her.She was a half blind school teacher who was a little better than anyone else and bought her clothes out of town. She cared for her Uncle, Civil War Confederate veteran Ed. Barton, and made every one miserable including him till he died. She finally got married in later years to Betson who was a failing farmer who married her for her money. She is buried with her family at the foot of her Uncle Ed. Barton. Her husband is not buried in the plot. They said that she was so proud that when her sister, Sarah, said to friends that their family never had slaves she indignantly said " you don't have to tell everyone". When Wharton died, Aunt Mary burned all his fine clothes in spite of the real poverty of the other men in the family. Ruth Davis said that when she came home after being to town she would search the house to make sure that no one were hiding to harm them.
