Misc. Notes
Ran a sawmill, hardware store and banker. We have dates from grave marker at Laclede Cemetery, Linn Co. Mo. When his mother died , W.A. Balcolm was his gardian until 13 Dec. 1870 when Wm. B. Brinkley was appointed. Ruth Davis said that he was extremely thrifty but did lend her father, Thomas, money to move from Humphreys, Mo. to Linn Creek, Mo. ----------------------------------------------------------------- From Lee Cady, his son. I gained the impression that he would rather use his head than his hands and feet. He was extremely poor and met one financial disaster after another. He ended up with an old saw mill with a boiler so leaky that he had to add meal to the boiler in able to get up steam to operate. He was so poor that he wrapped his shoes with gunny sacks to keep from getting frost bitten. The saw mill did get him his start and he eventually had a hardware store and a bank. the town as Osgood in Sullivan Co. Mo. ----------------------------------------------------------------- --William A. Balcolm was appointed his guardian 7 Aug, 1868 till 13 Dec.1870 when Wm. B. Brinkley was appointed.
