From a personal letter from Marion and Lillian Storrs to their cousin, Zalmon Storrs in 1906.
‘If Aunt Maria knew of our writing she would also send a message of friendship and cheer and it would be as a choice little speech for she is quaint and original and altogether charming in her expression Eighty six years have not made her old by any means. She is plump, straight, active and bright, nothing escapes her dark eyes and her gray hair curls as prettily as a child’s above her ears. She lives alone in a cottage a half mile away, orders her ways exactly as pleases her. She is up with or before the sun and devoted to her chickens. Sometimes she longs to see the Susquehanna County friends but when we suggest her going for a visit or their coming, she declares she could not leave her WORK nor would she have time to entertain company So after all she is quite content
